Mayor Presents 2015 Budget to Council

Yesterday Mayor McAdams presented his 2015 budget to the Salt Lake County Council. This $1.1 billion dollar budget will be debated over the coming weeks and a final budget approval will be made by the County Council before the end of the year.

We were happy to hear that no tax increase is being proposed. A merit increase of 2.75% for county employees is included.

Aimee Winder Newton has been serving on the Salt Lake County Council since January 2014 and is the first Republican woman elected to the council. Her district encompasses Murray, Taylorsville, West Valley City and West Jordan, and a small portion of South Salt Lake and Millcreek.

Aimee serves as vice-chair of the council. She is a board member for Wasatch Front Waste and Recycling District, chair of the Jordan River Commission, and chair of the Urban County Caucus. She believes that being collaborative and reaching across the aisle is essential in her role on the county council.

Prior to serving on the council, Aimee had a small business doing communications consulting. She graduated from the University of Utah, where she received her BS in Mass Communications.

Aimee and her husband, Matt, have been married for over 20 years and enjoy their four children. In her spare time she loves to read, play the piano, and travel with her family.
